The average airline chief has a lot of issues on his or her plate right now - fuel pricing, climate change, modern retailing and transforming the passenger experience, to name just a few.
Delta Air Lines CEO Ed Bastian is no exception and, during a keynote presentation at the annual CES event in Las Vegas this week, he highlights some of the initiatives the airline has underway as well as the partnerships it is forging for future developments.
Of note in Bastian’s speech was a project with Misapplied Sciences, which displays personalized information to passengers at airports.
The "Parallel Reality" displays can be seen by volumes of people simultaneously, with each person only seeing the information pertinent to their trip, in their own language.
Bastian is joined on stage by Albert Ng, CEO of the Washington state-based company, as well as Nicole Jones, Delta’s global innovation leader, to explain the science behind the technology, as well as the ways it will relieve airport stress.
The plan is to trial the technology at an airport in Detroit this summer.

Later in the presentation, Bastian talks about Delta’s initiatives around sustainability, from small steps such as recycling plastics and uniforms to larger projects around investment in biofuels.
The airline has a goal of cutting emissions by half by 2050.
