And as the industry grows, so does demand for travel insurance,
according to Robert Gallagher, chief operating officer and head of the Americas
at Travel Guard, the portfolio of travel insurance and travel-related services
from AIG Travel.
“The traveling
public has become more aware of and more educated as it relates to travel
insurance … they want to travel with confidence, they want to travel with peace
of mind,” Gallagher said during an interview in the PhocusWire studio at The
Phocuswright Conference.
And part of
that peace of mind comes from knowing that if they need to file a claim or get
assistance while in-destination, their insurance provider will handle things
easily and efficiently. Gallagher said that’s where technology is making a
difference — automating access to policy documents, simplifying the purchase
process and expediting claims.
“In the
U.S., 80% of our claims are filed electronically, up from 20% five years ago,”
he said.
